History

2007

Sigma is awarded the 'Computer Association's Diamond' for the IT company that best understands the needs of the customer. The award is based on a questionnaire completed by more than 1500 IT buyers.

Sigma expands internationally through a large acquisition within technical documentation. A separate trademark for this business area is established, Sigma Kudos.

Continued expansion in England and Germany to allow delivery locally to Swedish customers abroad at their development units. Other investments within various areas are made during the year. The result is negatively affected by these simultaneous investments.

Establishment of branch offices with their own staff in India to oversee a number of partnerships with Indian subcontractors.

Renewal of general agreements with Sigma's biggest customers and two new strategic general agreements with Swedish Rail and Nordea.
 

2006

Sigma takes an important step in its development through the acquisition of Eclipse SP in Ukraine with almost 100 employees. This acquisition provides Sigma with very favorable conditions for meeting foreign competition in Sweden.

An office is opened in China to meet the demand for local delivery to large Swedish companies there.

Sigma is once again a thousand strong.

Other investments such as in the business system Microsoft Dynamics Axapta is begun during the year.

Strategic acquisitions provide Sigma with new services and expanded focus on engagement. Operations running at a loss are sold. Sigma is free of debt at the close of the year
 

2005

Sigma is not nominated as Sweden's best IT consultancy company this year.

The market demands various types of engagement as complements to traditional resource strengthening. All the general agreements that terminate during the year are extended.

Sigma once again exceeds one billion in invoicing during a period of continual growth, and doubles the result of the previous year.

The Swedish code for company regulation is introduced.
 

2004

Sigma is once again nominated as Sweden's best IT consultancy company in Veckans Affärer's poll.

Sigma signs significant general agreements with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, the Swedish Board of Agriculture and the Defence Matériel Administration with respect to several large public organizations.

The market for consultancy services changes. The large consultancy buyers demand general agreements, and several customers radically reduce their numbers of suppliers. Sigma maintains its status and general agreements with all its customers.

The listed company RKS with 400 employees is acquired through public auction. The integration of the two groups is begun in August.

Through the sale of our operations concerning standard products within the healthcare sector, we create the opportunity to freely recommend IT solutions for modern healthcare within both municipalities and county councils.

Sigma begins cooperation with the global Indian IT company, Wipro Technologies.
 

2003

Sigma is nominated Sweden's best IT consultancy company in a poll carried out by Veckans Affärer, in which 200 large Swedish companies are asked to indicate their 'first choice' consultancy company.

A referendum on Sweden joining the European Monetary Union is held. IT development comes to a standstill during the year: customers are unsure as to whether they should concentrate on traditional projects or currency conversion projects. The referendum results in a 'no' and the market comes back to life towards the end of the year.

New significant general agreements are signed with the Swedish Prison and Probation Administration, the Post Office, and the Swedish Agency for Administrative Development.

Sigma strengthens its capital base by 143 MSEK through a new share issue.

Sigma's new office is opened at Lindholmen, Göteborg where all the Sigma companies are gathered under one roof.

During 2002 and 2003 Sigma undergoes comprehensive restructuring. Through sales, closure and other activities the number of personnel is reduced from 1300 to 700 in two years.
 

2002

Sigma signs significant general agreements with, among others, AstraZeneca, Ericsson, the Swedish Social Insurance Board and the Swedish Government Employee Pensions Board. At the same time Sigma is commissioned to supply functional engagement to Telia Communication, BTG and Volvo Cars.

Sigma acquires several companies within the service area of business systems and sells technology and communication companies.

 

2001

Sigma divides operations into three focused, listed companies: Epsilon, Teleca and a new Sigma. The companies are based on the three previous business areas in the group. Each of them has now become big enough and gained a strong enough market position to continue development under its own name. Sigma AB is lifted out and listed separately on the O-list on September 28 2001.

 

2000

Sigma has exceptional success with WirelessUnlimitedTM and is adopted by Ericsson as a strategic partner within Bluetooth development. Together with Peltor, Sigma develops one of the first industrial Bluetooth applications.

 

1999

Sigma increases focus on wireless and e-solutions. The most recent investments include acquisition of companies with special competence within e.g. e-commerce and trademark development. During the year the group passes the 2000 employees mark.

 

1998

In July 1998 Sigma passes the millennium, i.e. it has more than 1000 employees.

An IT college in Kista, Stockholm is opened the same year, and the number of Internet users worldwide is estimated at around 150 million.

 

1997

Sigma is listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange O-list in February 1997. The offer is over subscribed 40 times, an all time record for the exchange.

The Swedish web bookshop bokus.com is established; Sigma is involved in the design of the data bases and is responsible for the servers at its own premises.

 

1996

Sigma establishes its first company abroad, in Denmark.

Soon after this it establishes itself in Poland, Ireland, Norway, Italy and Switzerland.

Sigma strengthens its position within information technology through the acquisition of Exallon Group AB and nBiT Affärssystem AB, the companies on which the present day Sigma is based.

 

1994

In February 1994 Bill Clinton and Carl Bildt make history by being the first national leaders to exchange e-mails. The first cyber bank opens in the USA and a pizza chain starts sales via the Internet. The trend within the automotive industry is towards increased computorization. The Volvo S80 project, for a new generation of cars, is launched and Sigma is involved in the development of the real time distribution system.

 

1993

Ericsson Microwave Systems starts production of a totally new type of flying reconnaissance radar, Erieye. Sigma is involved in, among other things, the design work. Sigma's first customer is the Swedish Airforce.

 

1991

Sigma is involved in the design and projecting when Sysav builds one of Sweden's largest industrial waste processing plants. The World Wide Web as we know it today is established.

 

1990

Sigma carries out the first CAD drawing, of the layout of a Pågen bakery. This facilitates quick layout changes when the company needs to adapt its production to meet new requirements.

 

1989

Astra builds its first installation for the production of the drug Losec. Sigma has overall responsibility for machines, production lines and plant. The Berlin Wall falls at the end of the year, an indication of the escalating globalization.

 

1988

The number of Internet users increases significantly. Sweden connects up to the NSFnet. 

The name derives from the US state owned company NSF, which originally placed five super computers in different locations across the country.

 

1987

Sigma's Entrepreneur Packet is applied for the first time. Building up new operations around one or more motivated people is one of Sigma's growth strategies.

 

1986

Dan Olofsson starts an operation based on technical consultancy services and lays the foundation of Sigma AB.
