Turning passion into purpose

In Linköping, more and more Sigma companies are establishing new offices. We head there to have a word with one of their experts of a better tomorrow, Zandra Granberg from Sigma Industry East. She is one of the latest additions to the group’s committed and driven workforce. An addition who has already fallen in love with the personal development opportunities within the organisation.

After many years working in government administration and public sector, Zandra decided to leave the capital and return to school. As she had always been interested in green technology and how environmental work could align with business opportunities, she applied for and was accepted into the Environmental Science programme at Linköping University. And, being a driven and ambitious person, Zandra continued working while studying full-time. However, it was during her time at Tekniska verken in Linköping that her path towards a full career change truly began.

“After just six months at Tekniska verken, I became aware of Sigma. We had a consultant, Elenor Kasselia, working with us from Sigma, and she thought I should join them,” Zandra explains about how she ended up at Sigma Industry East.

The idea of working as a consultant became even more appealing, and Zandra found the company’s business-driven environmental focus highly interesting. After earning her degree in Environmental Science, she joined Sigma in November 2023.

“I had always been curious about the consulting industry, and thanks to Elenor, I got a whole new perspective on it. The business-driven environmental approach that Sigma represents really captured my interest. It felt like I could combine everything I had learned with my personal drive – and with that, make a real difference. It was as if the pieces finally fell into place,” Zandra says about her first period as a consultant.

It didn’t take long before her determination led her forward, and in April 2024, she was offered a role as a team leader. When she was given the opportunity, Zandra felt both proud and grateful. She hadn’t imagined taking on such responsibility so soon, but she realised it was proof that Sigma believed in her. That trust motivated her to grow even more in her role.

“What I appreciate about working at Sigma Industry East is how flexible, free, and inspiring it is. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the company really cares about us employees and our personal development. There’s also a remarkable commitment to social sustainability,” Zandra continues about her experience as a consultant at Sigma.

The positive working environment, along with the feeling that ambition is rewarded, left a lasting impression. Zandra, who has a passion for learning and self-improvement, soon enrolled in a leadership course at Linnaeus University – a course she is attending while continuing to work full-time, in true Zandra fashion.

In addition to balancing studies and work, Zandra also leads a project that Sigma runs in collaboration with Linköping University. This initiative is part of Sigma’s effort to develop more environmental and technical solutions within the field.

The project focuses on identifying potential knowledge gaps in companies' environmental work that could be addressed to create future business opportunities. The key question they are exploring is how to turn an environmentally beneficial idea into a profitable business.

“This project is incredibly inspiring, and working with tomorrow’s experts in these areas is something I truly value,” says Zandra about the collaboration with the university.

One key insight from working with the students is how crucial technology is in changing consumption patterns and encouraging people to adopt more environmentally friendly behaviours. By making new practices easier through technological solutions, it becomes possible to influence the general public to change their habits. Zandra plans to apply these insights in her work – not only by contributing to Sigma’s internal environmental efforts but also by helping clients find sustainable solutions.

“Every day, I find countless opportunities to do things that contribute to a better tomorrow. Being able to use my education and work with environmental issues, thereby creating positive change, is incredibly fulfilling. The fact that my employer actively supports this makes it even better.” Zandra continues on contributing to a better tomorrow.

I’m grateful for the day I decided to change careers and find a new environment, both in terms of workplace and employer.

Zandra looks forward to working with environmental issues both internally and externally. She is eager to drive Sigma’s competence in these areas and, in doing so, create better conditions for helping their clients improve – even making sustainability a core part of their business.

“I feel incredibly comfortable here, and I learn so much from the section managers. Their passion and ambition are contagious. I’m grateful for the day I decided to change careers and find a new environment, both in terms of workplace and employer. I’m excited to continue building Sigma Industry East and contribute to finding new industries and business opportunities based on green technology,” Zandra concludes as she reflects on her future as an expert on building a better tomorrow.
