Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Grid Automation)

Assignment description

For Hitachi Energy in Västerås, we are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer within Grid Automation.

This role focuses on relay and control concept development for sub-transmission systems, as well as electrical design of bay level cubicles in substations. You will act in a technical leadership capacity, coordinating engineering activities and serving as a consultant to both management and customers in complex technical matters.

Role Summary

You will independently — and by leading other engineers — perform advanced electrical engineering activities across substation and grid automation projects.

The role includes planning, coordinating, and executing engineering tasks of substantial impact, while proactively improving operational performance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities 🔹 Engineering & Design

• Develop relay and control concepts for sub-transmission systems in close collaboration with customers and core project teams

• Responsible for electrical design of bay level cubicles within substations

• Perform detailed engineering using CAD tools (EPC ElMaster)

• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and engineering analyses

🔹 Project & Technical Leadership

• Lead, plan, and coordinate complex engineering activities

• Provide technical guidance to engineers and project teams

• Serve as consultant to management and customers regarding advanced technical solutions

• Coordinate major engineering tasks with significant business impact

🔹 Collaboration & Execution

• Collaborate closely with Project Execution and Operating Centers (OPC’s)

• Ensure alignment with project budgets and timelines

• Support continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
  AND minimum 6 years of relevant work experience including leadership/management

OR

• Another technical degree with 15+ years of relevant experience

Technical Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical design of transmission and distribution projects

• Advanced experience with EPC ElMaster CAD tool

• Experience in substation automation and relay protection systems

• Strong understanding of grid and sub-transmission systems

Language

• English (spoken and written) – Mandatory

• Swedish – Strongly meritorious
