Software Developer / Application Engineer (Network Control)

For Hitachi Energy in Västerås, we are expanding the Network Control Application Engineering team to meet growing global demand.

We are seeking a Software Developer / Application Engineer to support system deliveries of SCADA/EMS/GMS solutions to customers across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.

In this role, you will contribute to optimizing power generation, transmission, and distribution systems — ensuring safe, secure, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective grid operations.

Role Summary

As a Software Developer / Application Engineer within Network Control, you will:

• Support configuration and customization of SCADA/EMS/GMS systems

• Collaborate directly with international customers

• Develop workflow integrations between IT and OT systems

• Participate in testing, training, commissioning, and troubleshooting

• Support technical proposals and tenders

This role combines power systems engineering knowledge with software development and customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities 🔹 Software Development & Configuration

• Act as software developer supporting system deliveries

• Configure applications according to customer requirements

• Develop integrations between SCADA/EMS/GMS and other IT/OT systems

• Use modern interface and integration technologies

🔹 Customer Collaboration

• Work closely with customer experts to align technical solutions

• Execute test plans and verification procedures

• Provide training on EMS/GMS functionality

• Support issue resolution in collaboration with technical teams

🔹 Engineering & Analysis

• Contribute to power system-related analyses

• Support cable calculations and system evaluations where applicable

• Conduct structured testing and validation activities

🔹 Proposal & Tender Support

• Provide technical expertise to sales and tendering teams

• Contribute to high-quality bid preparation

Required Qualifications Education

• Master’s degree (or higher) in:

  • Energy Systems

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Computer Science

  • Or related field

Technical Background

• Basic understanding of:

  • Electric power generation and transmission networks

  • SCADA systems

• Programming skills in:

  • C

  • C++

  • FORTRAN

Experience Level

• Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience with Bachelor/Master

OR

• 15+ years of experience with another technical degree

Language

• Fluent English (written and spoken)

• Swedish is advantageous

Travel & Work Model

• Office presence at least 51% required

• Travel approximately 10%

• Travel periods may extend up to 3 weeks (2 weeks more common)

• International project environment
